It Took A Lick'n

But Kept On Tick'n
filename
Chapel Hill was host to Signal, The Southeast Electronic Music Festival, last weekend and CareySound was there to prove once and for all that their superior Electro-Voice sound systems had what it takes to survive a two day, eight hour per day, onslaught of electronic music.

The event was held in five different venues throughout the Chapel Hill community. John Carey (he comes by his 'pedal to the metal' mixing technique honestly) engineered the performances at the Nightlight venue with a modified version of our Club 300 rental system. The system featured the EV Zx5 fullrange loudspeakers with EV Qrx 118 subs on mains and EV Zx1's for monitors all powered with EV CP3000S amplifiers. As for the performance of the system for the two day torture-fest, let's just say, well be back again next year - by popular demand!

Tragedy Strikes One Of Our Own

IMG_0231

One of our dear customers, Cloverdale Church of the Living God on Elm street in High-Point, met with tragedy a little over a week ago when an electrical short caused a fire that destroyed their church building along with nearly everything inside. The congregation will continue to meet in their youth and daycare center next door. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pastor Perry and his congregation as they struggle with this loss.

If you would like to make a donation to the church it can be sent to Cloverdale Church of the Living God, care of High Point Bank and Trust. The banks address is address is 2758 South Main Street in High Point.

All Together Now

I have a hard and fast rule - only one person mixes at a time. If you aren't ready to take over don't get in the way of my mix. I don't mix/play well with others! Apparently MIDAS didn't get the memo but I guess this one time I'll have to give them a pass in the name of science.

Their quest was to build a system that would have up-time that is as good as their analogue gear. Who can count all of the times they have had to recover their crashed computer much less their fancy new digital console toy. MIDAS decided that if their system was to be used for live audio, IT HAS TO WORK. There are no do-overs in live audio. Thats one tall order.

So they rolled up their collective sleeves and built a monster. Now they had to put it to the test. They gathered up 10 eager volunteers to gang up on the system all at once. Let's see, that's ten engineers times two hands each for a total of twenty hands all groping and grabbing everything they could put their hands on - live - real time - and guess what happened - the system didn't hiccup even once. As The Rock says, "Just Bring It!" Or as his defeated opponent says,"Submission!"

The XL8 not only has enough horsepower to take everything to the max, but room to spare at an amazing super-computer 48 GigaFlops (Gflop). For those of you that never were good at math thats 48,000 BILLION mathematical calculations per second. And as if that wasn't enough, the system is scalable.

Ok, I have to go take a break and catch my breath. More very soon. Stay tuned! DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL!

Does Not Do Windows

Untitled-2Untitled-2The new MIDAS XL8 uses Linux at its core. No bug-ridden, virus-magnet, blue-screen-of-death Windows crap. As a mater of fact it's an industrial version of an already industrial operating system. All of the unnecessary drivers and extensions have been striped from it, such as print drivers, to make it the most stable platform on the planet. Hoo-Rah!

The Lowdown

IMG_0002
Introduced just this January at the NAMM Show, the Electro-Voice SB122 bass module is the newest addition to our rental department. The SB122 is a very compact, lightweight subwoofer system that is designed to add bass enhancement to Sx and Zx Series speaker systems. It combines the advantages of a long-throw 12" woofer with a strong, lightweight composite enclosure. The large vent provides less vent compression and turbulence for increased low frequency output. The EVS12SB cast frame transducer created for the SB122 uses the same motor and suspension design as the EVS18S used in EV's larger systems. With nearly two inches of peak-to-peak excursion capability, this is literally a twelve inch with the heart of an eighteen. Parallel it to the Zx1 full range loudspeaker without the need for an additional amplifier or processor because of a built-in low pass filter to add impressive low end output. All of this and it easily fits in the back seat of your car along with our new Entertainer System.

Working Hard For The Money

IMG_9053
Alt-rockers Switchfoot played a double header today in Greensboro. Brothers Jonathan and Tim Forman lead the San Diego-based quintet. First playing at The Scene on South Elm Street for a by invitation only acoustic set with part of the band sponsored by WKZL 107.5 Radio. CareySound provided the audio system for that event. Equipment highlights; EV Zx5 for house speakers, EV Zx1 monitors, KT SquareOne EQ. John Carey played double duty too as FOH and MON engineer.

Later in the evening the whole band preformed to a large crowd at War Memorial Auditorium in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex for a concert sponsored by the Campus Activity Board of UNC-Greensboro. They were joined by a great opening act by the name of MuteMath. IMG_9049
