Photo Caption and Slogan Contest

I was browsing photo's from this last year and I ran across this photo that I had somehow hadn't noticed before. So how about it. We could all use a little humor this holiday season. Help me out with a photo caption that could also be used as a slogan for the new year.

The score: Cobra - 100 Yorkville - 0 Sorry Yorkville - you were the weak link.

The Long Goodbye

IMG_0011

I very rarely get to go to a show as a patron. Last Saturday was of those rare occasions. Money, Power Moves, Respect 2.0 B-Boy Battle was a great event. Teams from all up and down east coast participated in this breakdance competition. It was better than a three ring circus. I was blown away by the camaraderie of the participants. Take the showmanship of professional wrestling, add the athleticism of olympic gymnastics and add a little attitude and you get an amazing show. I give it a full five SoundMan rating.

The last B-Boy Battle held at the Anvil this past summer taped by Greensboro's Kourthouse Media on New Garden Road. They have made it into a DVD that is well worth the $10 they are asking. You can find them online at www.kourthousemedia.com .

Now for the sad news. The Flying Anvil, voted Best Live Music Venue by GoTriad Readers Choice Awards for 2006, is closing at the end December if they can't find a new owner. This is a venue that was begged for by Greensboro citizens as the missing premier live music night spot and unfortunately there was just not enough support to keep it open. So if you had always meant to go you'd better get there quick. There aren't many events left. You can go to their website www.theflyinganvil.com to see the remaining schedule.

Tame The Beast

SMSHelp

Dear Soundman - Hi! I'm a local soundguy from Norway, and I've been searching internet for some info about Dynacord systems. I can see from the Harmony Central forums that your company operates the Xa2 system. About a year ago, I had a demo on a singel Xa system with the 2 Xa amps, but I was not convinced about the sonic quality of the system. I therfore wonder if it sounds better with the 244 conroller and different amps. - Yours Bjørn

Xa2_logo4c

Dear Bjørn -
The short answer is yes. You can tame the Xa System with a alternative system configuration. We sell a different Dynacord amplifier package because like you we wanted a little more control over the system than you get with the Xa 4000's that normaly comes prepackaged. The Xa 4000's have nothing more than a simple active crossover. We sell the system with the following rack package:
IMG_0041
COBRA System Rack Model CSR 2LX - Item #D112978 - includes: CSF12 flight case; DSP 244 digital controller; 2 LX2200 amplifiers; CP 48 connector panel (prewired)
Xa freq
The speakers out of the box are very close to a neutral responce needing only a little overall component balancing and a few spikes attentions like the one at about 6.5 KHz. These can easily be controlled with the DSP 244 system controller and add the comp/limiting of the 244 and you get a simple to set up rig that is almost impossible to screw up at an amazing price.

Step Four - ...plug each stack into amp rack.

Step Five - Plug in power to the rack and turn on.

One final note - rent the system for a gig. You'll never know what the system is capable of with a salesman hanging over your shoulder at a "demo". Take it out and crank it up.

Festival of Lights 2006 - 72° F

Last year the temperature was 32° for the Greensboro Downtown Festival of Lights and it was celebrated outside in Hamburger Square. This year it was 72° and it was held inside the Carolina Theater.

Outside - Inside - Cold - Hot - Snow - Rain. Whatever the circumstances CareySound is there to help celebrate the season.

Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful...

Let It Rain, Let It Rain, Let It Rain

Nothing was going to stop the rescheduled ribbon cutting ceremonies of the new City Center Park in Greensboro on Friday. Not years of planning, construction delays or unseasonable December rain storms. As if on cue, the rain stopped and the clouds parted as several hundred Greensboro citizens participated in the ribbon cutting ceremonies.

CareySound was there for the groundbreaking two years ago and was there again for the opening ceremonies. The CareySound Cobra System provided the audio system on stage while 14 delayed EV Sx300's ringed the park.

You will just have to take our word on how gorgeous the park is because the SoundMan was the first victim of the new park when his camera was stolen and all of his pictures of the event disappeared along with the camera.

A little friendly advice from the SoundMan. Don't let his experience there discourage you from enjoying the park, just don't take valuables with you as you watch the new fountain. If the thief is reading this, please at least have the dignity to at least give us a copy of the pictures on the camera.

Sellout in Fletcher

Christian comedian Chonda Pierce preformed to an enthusiastic sellout crowd last Thursday night in Fletcher, NC at the Lelia Patterson Center in a benefit concert for Park Ridge Hospital. The CareySound Cobra System was on hand to make sure that every joke and song was heard by the 1,400 people in the audience. John Carey was the SoundMan for the event.

How To - Step By Step

Dear SoundMan - So I bought this new EV DX 38 system processor and got the optional RS485 card installed but how do I connect it to my computer. - What Am I Missing -

dx38_hr
Dear Missing Something -
So you have invested in Electro-Voice Dx 38 System processor, an excellent choice by the way (or a Dynacord DSP 244 which is identical), and you would like to take advantage of the ability to control it remotely with a laptop computer utilizing the optional RS-485 interface card. You have the 485 card installed in your processor and a mic cable running from it to you computer but how in the world do you get that signal into the computer?

Well you can stop looking for the instructions in the user manuel because it's not there, as a matter of fact EV doesn't even sell an interface, so once again it's SoundMan to the rescue. We have added a step by step guide on how to make your own with a link to where you can get the part you need. You will find it in the Tech Download section to the right titled USB to RS485.
