144 Years Of Providence

Happening
Lynn and I were
privileged to worship with our friends at
Providence Baptist Church on Tuscaloosa here
in Greensboro as they celebrated their 144th
anniversary as a congregation and the 44th
year with Pastor Dr. Howard Chubbs.
In 1866, one year after the Civil War, a band of worshipers organized a religious group under a brush arbor, near East Market Street of Greensboro, NC. This group was the humble beginning of what was destined to be known as The Providence Baptist Church. In 1871 a one-room frame building was constructed. In addition to being a place of worship, it served as a community school. Four years later, the congregation of Providence Baptist Church erected on the same site, the first brick and mortar church for African Americans in the state.
City redevelopment efforts during the early 1960s resulted in the demolition of the one-room church. For a short period, members met on Sundays in the Richard Berry Harrison Auditorium on the campus of NC A&T State University (then A&T College). In December of 1967, Providence moved into its current edifice on Tuscaloosa Street. The church was expanded in 1986 and then again in the 90’s.
In November 2007, the Howard Allen Chubbs Family Enrichment Center, a 32,000 sq. ft. facility, was dedicated.

When the Brian Carn
Unleashed Tour blew into Greensboro last
weekend for a two night engagement at the
Marriott Downtown it wasn’t the only star of
the show. CareySounds latest version Dynacord
Cobra V.2 System shared star billing at the
event drawing rave reviews from the attendees.
Major upgrades to the Cobra system include the
addition of the new EV DVX 15” loudspeakers
and new power and processing provided by EV TG
Tour Grade amplifies with built-in RCM 26
system processors and new F.I.R. presets.
The unprecedented power and clarity in the newest version of the compact Dynacord Cobra was clearly evident as the high-fidelity system performed flawlessly throughout the engagement. The new V.2 version of the Cobra is now exclusively available in America through CareySound.

Digital systems are dramatically changing the
installed audio landscape. The scales have tipped
in the cost/ benefit ratio in favor of deploying
digital solutions as compared to their analogue
predecessors. These two system upgrades that
CareySound has just completed at Calvary Christian

great examples of the advantages of digital
workflows.
At Calvary Christian Center a new Roland RSS V-Mix System replaced their aging A&H GL3 mixing desk along with their old wired analogue snake. The new system boasts:
CareySound’s V-Mix instructor John Carey trains Calvary’s soundmen.
Over at Providence Baptist A new Automix Matrix 780 system controller from Symetrix mounted in their equipment rack located in an office with an ARC-2 adaptive remote control mounted at the pulpit for complete system control with a menu-driven remote. System highlights include:
